Hangovers are the antithesis of a fine wine. As anyone over the age of 30 knows, no hangover gets better with age.

The reason hangovers get worse as you mature is because your body is weaker. Dehydration impacts you more, booze triggers inflammatory responses that become harder to dampen, your stomach is like “WTF not this shit again,”  your sugar levels are all over the place and your blood vessels dilate giving you a headache that won’t quit (souurce). With New Years Eve celebrations upon us, we know flutes of bubbly and liquor are near impossible to avoid. Here’s a recipe that helps with inflammation and stomach settling helping you say boy bye to 2018 as painlessly as possible.

What you need (for one serving):

  • 100mg of CBD—inflammation and dilated vessels are two main culprits of hangovers, CBD will help calm your immune system’s triggers and will also help with blood flow. Try to use a full spectrum tincture that still has active levels of CBG and CBC—over 1% per ounce—we recommend Mineral’s Balance tincture).

  • 1 Tbsp grated ginger—known to help with digestion and nausea, this will settle your stomach.

  • ½ Lemon—tastes good and Vitamin C will help replenish your depleted body.

  • 1 Tbsp sea buckthorn puree—a potent berry that reduces inflammation and helps with digestion, aka kills your hangover. If you haven't heard of sea buckthorn, most Whole Foods and some vitamin stores carry it.

  • 1 Tsp apple cider vinegar—you just killed everything in your system with booze, start replenishing with good bacteria, proteins, and enzymes. Tastes like trash but ACV that has a mother (that scary blob at the bottom of the bottle that contains important nutrients and bacteria) can help speed up this process.

  • 1 Tsp honey (optional)—if you need a little sweet on the 1st of January, add some honey to your elixir.

Make it nice:

Boil 2 cups of water. Take off heat and add grated ginger and steep for 5 minutes. Drain and add your lemon (include your optional honey too). Once the water has cooled to room temperature add your CBD (you never want to add CBD to boiling or very hot liquids as it may impact the potency of the compound), sea buckthorn, apple cider vinegar, and honey. Put in fridge until ready to chug.

Remember, if alcohol isn’t your thing you can suffer from a weed hangover. Too much THC can lead to fogginess with edibles being the easiest way to over-consume cannabis. If you feel very groggy the day after consuming a ton of weed—CBD, CBC, and CBG are all excellent ways to tamper your brain fog. Just remember, if you want to feel effects 5mg isn’t going to cut it—try upwards of 60-100mg.

Thanks for being nice (and have a nice new year) ~
