Nice Times with IRL Cherub Stella Santana 💫
Stella Santana lives to make music. Growing up in California with roots in R&B, hip hop and reggae her music is soulful and the stuff bops are made of. Living in New York, the writer, vocalist and producer behind some of our favorite videos, including this one which summarizes exactly how we feel about dating vs. hanging with friends. Stella also just dropped a music video on NYLON with fellow artist Kamauu and has another single that has become our summer anthem titled Yayaya.
Luckily for you, me and everyone she's making more music for 2019. We sat down with Stella in her New York apartment to understand how she uses weed and what she does to feel nice. Before you google it, yes, she's the daughter of that Santana.

Tell us about yourself:
Oh boy, ha. I consider myself a pretty low key person. I like to stay under the radar and not draw too much attention to myself (yes I know I'm bleached blonde and like to wear next to nothing in the summer, but guess what, I'm still not asking for attention. I'm just being me and would like to just live my life, thank you very much :-).
I make music. It's my favorite thing to do in the whole world, and the thing about the industry is that the music-making part is just one aspect of the business. I'm learning to enjoy all facets. I also like collaborating (energetically, creatively) with woman because I think we are the best.
What are you proud about right now?
Right now I'm proud about rolling out all this music I've been making over the past year or so. It feels like it's just the beginning.
What was your first experience with weed?
My first experience with weed was with my god sister when I was maybe 15. I'd tried it before with someone else but didn't feel anything, which was weird. Then I used to secretly smoke outside my room when I came home from school and be high for dinners with the fam (sorry mom). I never liked to be obliterated, though—I still got all my homework done and got decent grades and also played sports year round.
What do you like using? Any favorite brands?
I really liked that Besito pen. I need to get back out to the west coast so I can stock up!
What does "wellness" mean to you?
Wellness to me means I feel good about/proud of/aligned with the choices that I'm making in life, the people I have around me in life and the way I'm treating myself.
Favorite nighttime ritual?
Either making music on my computer in my bed OR Real Housewives + snacks.
What skincare products do you swear by?
I use Cosmedix face wash and their salicylic acid. I also use Algenist liquid collagen every other night. Also, when I know I'm going to be in the sun I always (always always) wear at least 30 SPF sunscreen and I usually go for the brands that have less chemicals.
What do you wish people understood about weed?
I guess the way I feel about this is the way I feel about humans in general which is, stop letting others define things for you. Do your own research, find at least 5 different sources of info for comparison and be open to being wrong (ya might learn something). Everyone's relationship (to everything) is different, what works for you might not work for others and visa versa and also relationships/everything evolves. So I would say just listen to your body.
What do you admire most in your friends?
I am so in love with and grateful for my friends. They are the most open, aware, loving, hard working, bossy women I know. They have the best hearts and I feel lucky every day to be able to participate in their lives.
Peanut butter M&Ms, cupcakes, ice cream, waffles, Honey Nut Cheerios (with cow milk!)
If you're not feeling nice, what do you do?
Depends. Usually I would say, I don't speak—either because it's been made clear that speaking is not worth my energy OR because I know I'm feeling outta pocket and don't wanna make a mess that I have to clean up later. But, other times I have to speak, to make sure someone knows that I don't back down and keep my mouth shut when it comes to bullshit.
What's the advice you want to listen to more?
Honestly I hate drinking—it's fun in the moment but every morning I wake up and am like, is this the last day of my life????? I feel so clear and full of so much energy when I don't drink!
Dream presidential candidate in 2020?
