The Mood You Need for 2019 ✨
Hi Nice People!
Congratulations! You made it to 2019.
2018 will go down in history as the year that felt perpetually retrograded. Even Dictionary.com, when selecting their word of the year, went with “misinformation;” AKA ‘WTF was that.’ While there were some bright spots (there always are)—2019 is the year we do more taking care of both ourselves and others.
So, what’s our word for 2019? The mood we want to set? The only thing we could think of— focus. Focus on legalization, decriminalization, destigmatization, and accuracy both in hemp and cannabis. Focus on being nice to each other, focus on being nice to ourselves. We will act with intention using experts to find products that do what they say they do and are meaningful. We’ll also keep highlighting nice people while collaborating with brands we love.
This month, we’re turning our focus to products and stories that help you get shit done. While we aren’t much for resolutions, we do believe in moods. If you think your year is going to be trash, you’re setting yourself up for a trip to the dumpster. Let’s all create positive self-fulfilling prophecies for a better 365 days ahead. As you’re setting your 2019 mood, here’s some reading and nice news to get you started.
Two books that changed 2018 for us were The Death of Truth and You Are a Badass at Making Money. The Death of Truth by Michiko Kakutani breaks down exactly how truth is dismantled, how Trump rose to prominence, and, in understanding how authoritarian regimes rise, ways to fight the misinformation. At the end of the day facts matter, experts matter, and don’t lose hope.
You Are a Badass at Making Money is a manifesto to removing the biggest barrier you have to success—your own mindset. It’s hilarious, a quick read, and ultimately will make you feel nice about yourself. If you need some money moves motivation, it’s a must-read.
One of the latest brands to jump on the CBD train is Josie Maran with SKIN DOPE. Known for using Morocco’s greatest beauty secret, argan oil, and her simplified cosmetics line, she’s created two face oils. One is a mix of argan and hemp seed oil while the other has argan and hemp derived CBD. While the hemp seed oil product is pricey at $65.00 (you’re better off buying your own hemp seed oil in bulk from Wholefoods), we’re down to test the CBD version. Image courtesy of Allure.com
You’re not alone. Anxiety baking is a thing, and you should probably read about it.
Now here's to having a nice 2019, and thank you for being nice. :)
